Has something got the suits at Warner Bros. spooked? The once unstoppable Bros. have already had to move Rampage to avoid Avengers : Infinity War strolling into its release window without a care in the world, while still reeling from the failure of Justice League.

As they search high and low for something, anything to replace that guaranteed money-maker that was Harry Potter (and no, Fantastic Beasts doesn’t count!) it appears that all is not well with their next cab off the rank.

Ready Player One, a pop culture sensation in novel form from Ernest Cline, is imminent.  Adapted by a man responsible for adding colour to huge amounts of this pop culture, Steven Spielberg himself, it should seem like a home run, right?

Wrong!

Word is reaching us deep within the Goblins Nob here that Warner Bros. are worried.  Very worried.  This movie is creating zero buzz.  Tracking is off.  It’s not creating any waves or ripples, unless you count the overwhelmingly negative online reaction to the hilariously on-the-nose nostalgia porn that is their retro poster campaign for the movie?

Trapped in a sexy Marvel sandwich between Avengers : Infinity War and Black Panther, in an already crowded 2018 season that includes yet more Star Wars, it appears that this original property is struggling to create enough lift to propel itself into the average movie goers conscience.

Netflix, shorter release windows for home streaming, high ticket prices and the high supply of “product” are all presenting challenges to the distributors.  Another stumble from the King of Cinema like The BFG will be seen as one more harbinger, especially from a heavyweight like Warner Bros.
