Amazon has won the rights to a series based on the comic book Fear Agent, beating out other streaming services such as HBO Max and NBC’s soon to debut Peacock.

Fear Agent is written by Rick Rememder and has been published by both Image and Dark Horse Comics, first debuting in 2005.

It follows the adventures of alcoholic spaceman Heathrow Huston, who is a Fear Agent dedicated to protecting the Earth from alien threats. He is the last remaining Fear Agent out there, so he has the A.I. of his ship to keep him company.

Seth Rogen, Matt Tolmach and David F. Sandberg, all of whom have experience adapting comics to live-action, will be leading the show for Amazon.

Rogan executive produced four seasons of Preacher for AMC, Sandberg directed last year’s surprisingly good Shazam! and Tolmach co-wrote the currently in production The Batman for director Matt Reeves.

Rogan already had an in with Amazon. He is one of the producers for their series The Boys which is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic.

About ten years ago Universal acquired the rights to Fear Agent and attempted to turn it into a feature film, but it just wound up in development hell.
