“GORDON’S ALIVE!”
I heard that this was a thing a few years back, but then it wasn’t as it suffered a case of development hell. But now it looks that the Flash Gordon reboot is really happening.
Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman) was touted to direct Flash Gordon back in 2015, but responsibility will now pass to Julius Avery (Overlord) with Vaughn still attached as producer. Avery will pen the script.
The story will follow the adventures of Flash Gordon, a polo player and Yale University graduate, and his companions Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov.
When Earth is under threat from a collision with the planet Mongo, Dr. Zarkov invents a rocket ship to fly into space in an attempt to stop the disaster, as Flash, Dale, and Dr. Zarkov come into conflict with Mongo’s evil ruler, Ming the Merciless.
Flash Gordon was made in 1980 and is coming up for its 40th Anniversary, it starred Sam J Jones as the New York Jets quarterback-cum saviour of the Universe with Queen famously recording the soundtrack.
It starred my first onscreen crush, Ornella Muti as Ming’s daughter, Princess Aura.
The latest adaptation was the really bad TV series which aired on Syfy in the US from 2007 to 2008.
