A Film To Close The 28 DAYS LATER Trilogy Is Unlikely

Alex Garland’s second movie as a director (following the much revered EX MACHINA), ANNIHILATION, is Netflix bound in the UK next month. Garland has been doing some promotional work for the movie including an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit.

During that session, Garland was quizzed about 28 MONTHS LATER (an idea that’s been mooted for a while). Garland wrote the original 28 DAYS LATER and was an executive producer on the sequel, 28 WEEKS LATER. Those rumours about a trilogy-closer have now been answered: Garland in a brief response admitted that there were “kind of” plans for a further film, “but doubt it will ever happen”.

28 DAYS LATER was a good movie and 28 WEEKS LATER was a decent sequel (There is a great graphic novel titled 28 DAYS LATER: THE AFTERMATH and fans should check that out) But the movie industry is a strange old place, so never say never.

Hard to believe – impossible to believe! – that this movie was made 16 years ago:

Danny Boyle does not get enough credit for being the great director he is.
