Hollywood Diversity
Nothing To See Here

Hollywood Now Has a LOL(Lack Of Latinos) Problem

So if you are like me and are a film watcher and movie lover, you most likely watched the Oscars last night. And just like me, you probably said to yourself immediately afterward “Hey where are all the Latinos?”:

Guillermo Del Toro Becomes Emotional as He Wins Oscar for Best Director: “I Am an Immigrant”

No, no…That doesn’t count. That’s not good enough for Hollywood. You should be up in arms and much more fashionably #outraged too.

Oscars 2018 Was a Celebration of Latinx Talent—With No Latinx Acting Nominees

Now ignorant, old me thought Latinx was a new gender-neutral software operating system, but apparently, it is actually the second part of a one-two publicity punch being carefully doled out to the public by Variety.

Because if we go back to this outrage of the day story from Variety, actress Gina Rodriguez — you know her, she is from that thing you saw, that one time on Netflix — was positively devastated by the lack of Latino representation in Hollywood just a few short months ago.

The Fact That Latinos Are Not Seen on Screen Is Devastating” ~Sayeth Gina

She’s devastated I tell’s ya!

Having an atomic bomb dropped on your city. That’s devastating. Families having to deal with critical illnesses and being financially ruined. That’s devastating.

Not seeing a Venezuelan Batman on screen? Not so much.

This seems kind of fishy to you?

You wonder if just maybe, that Hollywood, looking to profit off of the current illogically overcharged political situation and being a creatively bereft immoral septic tank, has made up this #something bogus press release using the fame hungry Gina Rodriguez and the top trending “diversity”  to cover up for the fact that they are losing too much money trying to market their dogshit movies?

Exhibit A:

Ohh Boy.

Just hold on a minute there, sir!

Hollywood creatively bankrupt and losing money you say? Preposterous! All those compassionate movie stars and big shot, child groping producers are just swimming in wealth and full of new ideas.

Yea, They are full of something all right.

Lend Me Your Ear For A Moment, Won’t You?

Let me start off by saying that I am not Latino.

I am German/Irish. And maybe I am not the best judge of what it feels like to not see a Venezuelan Batman when I go to the movies.

So let me state two points:

1.) I am going to judge it anyway

2.) I am a huge fan of all kinds of movies. Whether they are good, or so bad they are good. Or if the actors are from this country or another. If its Russian Sci-Fi, Spanish Horror or American cult movie perfection, doesn’t matter I love them all.

Now, let’s begin this rant by taking Gina Rodriguez seriously and see if there is any truth to this devastating LOL on Hollywood screens.

Zorro Movie
Too easy?

Soooo just going off memory and a doing little bit of online research(took me about 5 mins of digging) I have found quite a “diverse” selection of Latino films and actors, spanning countless years and genres.

You got these here:

and also these:

The Top 25 Latin American Movies Of All Time

Right off that list Amores Perros and Cronos were just phenomenal films.

And I was amazed how intensely and deeply Like Water For Chocolate drew me into its story and characters.

Not to mention… If you haven’t seen “City Of God I suggest you remedy that immediately. This movie was just pure energy, as good as any Scorsese-In-His-Prime flick.

I also cannot recommend highly enough that you checkout Elite Squad.

Wagner Moura is a top-notch actor in everything he has done, but truly shines here and in the sequel Elite Squad 2:

Here are a few more for you to check out. That means you too Gina Rodriguez:

And last but not least, there are some people that were awarded by Hollywood for doing  something or other:

Now maybe my German/Irishness is preventing me from seeing clearly here. Maybe I have just gotten used to the fact the Batman looks like me. Or I look like Batman.

Or maybe it’s just that I only see people as people and talent as talent.

Whatever.

But to me, that seems to be a fairly large and diverse collection of quality films and engaging actors spanning many, many years.

Who also just all happen to be Latino to boot.

Ahh..Yes…No…Huh?…What?

What the heck Gina Rodriguez? Are you lying? Are you just reading from a script?

Is this even about a lack of Latinos on tv and in movies?

Or is there something deeper, more troubling and materialistic going on here?

Spoiler Alert!
