Last year’s Aquaman came out of left-field and took many people by surprise.  Emerging from the ashes of Warner’s ill-judged and poorly executed attempt at a cinematic universe, the highest expectation anyone could have had for it was that it joined Wonder Woman in the bracket marked “doesn’t completely suck.”

However what we actually got, against all odds, was a funny, entertaining, fantastical romp that balanced its inner earnestness with a realisation it was ridiculous, but was determined to have fun.  It worked!  And over $1b at the box-office shows that audiences agreed.

So rather than kill the already staggering DCEU, Aquaman joins Wonder Woman in keeping the franchise on life support while Warner Bros. tries to find people with an IQ slightly higher than a glass of water to run this show.

Full steam ahead to Aquaman 2 then?  Well, no.  Not quite.  Turns out that star Jason Momoa won’t be shooting any scenes just yet.  And here’s why – according to an Instagram post from the star himself:

“Sorry Warner Bros we can’t shoot Aquaman 2, because Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land.”

 

Scientists are hoping to build the world’s largest telescope on the island. Astronomers say it’s the best place on Earth to observe space, but Native Hawaiians argue that the land is sacred and should not be built on.

He’s not alone either.  Another Hawaiian actor, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson backed the protesters on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, telling the host:

“This mountain is their church. It would be like building on this church.  This is so much bigger than a telescope being built. This is human beings who are hurting.”

Seems like Momoa’s fans are on-board with the protest.  Some flooded his comments section to refer to the actor as a:

“True hero.”

Will this be resolved before Aquaman 2 starts shooting in early 2020?
