And It’s Safe To Assume Jared Leto Won’t Be Involved

Following the news that James Gunn has been reinstated as director and writer of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, it’s been confirmed that he will lead the way and helm DC’s The Suicide Squad.

Gunn became attached to that project earlier this year, initially as a writer and then as the director with a whole new take on the material that would use a bunch of new characters along with the return of Deadshot who has been recast with Idris Elba in the role.

And following on from his outing of Jared Leto on Twitter last year, it’s safe to assume his Joker is toast:

Gunn’s timeline for doing both these projects is for The Suicide Squad movie to be scheduled first with a view to start filming later this year, this will then segue into the third GOTG movie for Disney. He tweeted:

DC Films producer Peter Safran is working on The Suicide Squad along with the soon to be released Shazam! movie and he shed some light on the current situation:

“First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ’cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”

The film is expected to begin filming toward the end of this year. Here’s hoping it is better than the previous film which received mixed reviews when it was released in 2016.

The Suicide Squad comes to theatres in August 2021. A recent intriguing report says the film will add a number of characters from the DC Comics world, including Ratcatcher, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Peacemaker.
