The Plot Thickens

The guy behind The Wire and The Deuce is going again. David Simon is spinning up a six-part miniseries for HBO titled The Plot Against America.

An ensemble cast is coming together that includes Winona Ryder, John Turturro, Anthony Boyle, Zoe Kazan, Morgan Spector, Caleb Malis, and Azhy Robertson.  It is based on an alternative history novel published in 2004 and written by Philip Roth.

Whodunnit?

The book is told from the point of view of a Jewish family in New Jersey based on the alternative history that aviation hero Charles Lindbergh defeated Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1940 election.

Charles Lindbergh

Lindbergh was famously anti-interventionist in World War 2 and this led to accusations of anti-semitism as he strongly opposed sending Americans to fight the Nazi menace in Europe, claiming “The Jewish Race” were behind the pressure to send troops.

In the novel, real events are woven into this alternative history to depict an America turning away from the fight against fascism. The nation embraces a populist, isolationist President before the plot is revealed.

Simon, Ed Burns, Joe Roth, Nina K. Noble, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Susan Goldberg, and Jeff Kirschenbaum will all take an Executive Producer credit.
