The Actress Is “In Talks” With Sony

When one of the big three trades reported that an actor was “in talks” it used to mean that the ink was already dry.

But after the Jonah Hill deal on The Batman fell through the phrase means nothing.

Or they could just be test balloons being floated by the studios and when the idea of Jonah Hill as The Penguin provoked such a backlash in the fandom that he was dumped from the picture.

In any case, Miss Harris being “in talks” does confirm that the character is appearing in Venom 2.

Screaming For Venom

Shriek, who looks like a lazy mash-up of Aurora and Domino, first appeared in Spider-Man Unlimited Volume 1, #1 back in May 1993.

She was created by Tom DeFalco, Mike W. Barr, Terry Kavanagh, Ron Lim, Jerry Bingham and Mark Bagley.

That’s right: six people get credit for creating this one single character.

Shriek has the ability to manipulate sound to created concussive blasts and generate specific emotions in others like fear and rage.

She also can use her sound powers to fly.

Her backstory is perfect for today’s attention-seeking, aggressively-insane culture:

As a young girl, Shriek had a miserable childhood that eventually drove her to drugs. Her mother was ashamed of her for being overweight and she was abused by both her parents.

She became a groupie for a rock band, and a drug dealer on the side until the vigilantes Cloak and Dagger happened by during one of her deals.

Having already suffered enough traumas to make her dangerously unstable, a short stay in Cloak’s dark dimension pushed her over the edge into insanity.

I wonder if she self-diagnoses as neuroatypical?
