Shatter… what?

Well, we all tuned in expecting a title and we didn’t get that.  Instead we got the cast together at 007 creator Ian Fleming’s Jamaican home, Goldeneye, ahead of the start of principal photography on Sunday on the same island.

Goldeneye, Jamaica

The film’s casting was fully announced though. Daniel Craig returns for the final time as James Bond 007.

The Bond family return through Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner.  Westworld star Jeffrey Wright returns as Felix Leiter for the first time since Quantum Of Solace.

We know Lea Seydoux returns as Madeleine Swann, the first ever returning main Bond leading lady, and the first to return since Sylvia Trench appeared in Dr. No and From Russia With Love.

I wonder what odds are being offered at the bookies on her character making it past the opening titles sequence?

Joining them is Rami Malek, fresh off Bohemian Rhapsody success, as the villain along with Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), the jaw-dropping Ana De Armas (Blade Runner 2049) and Dali Benssalah (Nox).

“Right, Now Pay Attention!”

Shortly afterward the press release gave an outline synopsis:

“Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge have also been confirmed as writers.

Filming has already started in Norway.  Principal shooting starts this weekend in Jamaica, followed by Matera in Italy and at the franchise’s home at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom.
