A Neverending Story
With Disney’s imminent purchase of Fox’s movie division you would think they would halt their comic book movie production, but not so. With the sale, Disney/Marvel will attain back the rights to X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four and could introduce them into the Disney/Marvel Cinematic Universe after Infinity War has concluded.
Before the sale was agreed to, Fox was already scheduled to release Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, New Mutants and Gambit through 2018-2019.
Project 143
Deadline is now announcing that Fox wants to have one last go at an X-Men film before it is passed to Disney. A secret film called 143 has been leaked, which will be directed by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool. The story will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, a legendary Marvel comic book writer. At this point in time little is known about who or what the film is about, hence secret project.
If it is to be a team movie it could be an X-Force film following on from Deadpool 2, or it could be a single-character film like Deadpool or Channing Tatum’s Gambit. Brian Michael Bendis is on record as saying that Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) is his favourite X-Men character. In the Singer Universe films she was played by Ellen Page. The idea of a stand-alone Shadowcat is the favourite at the moment.
Hopefully it will not be long before we get more news and start fan-casting. Comic Con 2018 can’t come quick enough.
