Following the Disney acquisition of Fox earlier this year it was always known that some releases from both former rivals were going to be affected.  Now the House Of Mouse has issued its warning to just about every other studio that it will be dominating at the box office for the foreseeable future.

Winners and Losers

Quite a few long-gestating projects have been mercilessly trashed.  Others have been delayed by a few months.  Some by years.  There are also some new items on the schedule.

It’s a massive overhaul and it’s all hit at once with a huge bang.

The biggest surprise is that Disney has casually pushed Avatar 2 back by an entire year.  Swatting aside the sequel to the reigning box office champ (for maybe a month until we see where Avengers: Endgame gets to) seems to be sending a message about who bought who in this “merger”.

New Mutants moves out again but so far will make it to theatres.  Artemis Fowl also moves but stays on the schedule.  Three new Star Wars movies have placeholders.  No idea yet which ones they will be.  So much for us taking a break from the galaxy far, far away for a while after Episode IX.

Marvel Studios has clearly whipped out its big swinging dick and pissed everywhere to mark it’s territory as far as Superheroes are concerned.  Gambit has been canceled and three untitled Fox-Marvel projects previously set for 2020 & 2021 are also in the shitter.  Speculation is that these included X-Force and Dr. Doom.  The only tights allowed around here will now happen on Marvel’s watch.
