Formerly titled Dhaka, which I believe is the capital of some shithole country where people would need extracting from, Extraction seems very promising on the surface:
Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career when he’s enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.
Director Sam Hargrave certainly sounded very excited about it when he talked to USA Today, whom Netflix tapped to exclusively handle the promotional press:
“You’ve got a guy who has a dark past and has done some very violent things as a way to make a living. The interesting thing about (Hemsworth’s) character isn’t his physical bravery but his emotional cowardice.”
So, that’s the interesting part?
The “emotional cowardice?”
Not the dark world of guns-for-hire being used for nefarious purposes in some of the most corrupt places on earth?
Well, this is Netflix, so they have to target that lucrative premium female audience.
After doing stunts on all of the Russo Brothers’ Marvel movies this will be Hargrave’s first feature film — if one can consider Netflix to be feature filmmaking.
Personally, I don’t. I consider most of the movies made by Netflix to be slush funds that stars and producers systematically loot.
Has anyone ever seen a good Netflix movie?
But it is nice to see a first-timer, especially a stuntman, getting a chance to direct a big-time movie with a big-time star.
I’ll give you one guess what his job was on those Russo movies.
In fact, the Russo Brothers are producing the movie and Joe even has a writing credit. My only question is: will he write himself in as crying before dessert or after?
I expect another generic, 5.11 Tactical The Movie take on mercenaries, drug trafficking and the art of getting people out of hot spots.
Think more 22 Miles than Sicario, let alone something as idiosyncratic as Spartan.
Again, has anyone actually seen a good Netflix movie?
Skip this and rent the 2015 Bruce Willis / Gina Carano movie of the same name.
