This Is Some Bad News

Don’t tell KK, but today Variety reported that Bucky and Sam are going to appear in a series or mini-series on the new Disney streaming platform.

Variety has learned exclusively that Malcolm Spellman has been tapped to write a series featuring the two superheroes, which is currently in development at the streamer. It is the first of the proposed Marvel limited series to find a writer.

Malcolm Spellman… I don’t even to have to get Gib to run a background workup on this guy. All we need to know is that he was writing some series for HBO that would explore an alternative universe where The South won the Civil War and slavery was still legal. See, it’s really an analogy for how people of color experience… yawn. Such subtle racial soapboxing.

The title was Confederate. Not joking.

This was all independently confirmed a couple of hours later by 1999 time-warp website SlashFilm:

We have learned that Disney is also developing a third series that will give fans the Falcon/Winter Soldier team-up that they have been wanting since Captain America: Civil War. On top of that, I have also learned a few more details about the Scarlet Witch series. Here’s what we know.

Seriously, who doesn’t have a mobile-friendly website in the current year?

I bet Film Goblin could make some nice coin fixing other movie sites

Here’s What This Means

  1. Bucky is not becoming Captain America
  2. Sam is not becoming Captain America
  3. Winter Soldier is not getting a solo movie
  4. Falcon is not getting a solo movie
  5. Since Marvel likes to keep their TV characters and their movie characters separate it’s likely that both of these characters are done on the big screen
  6. We all know what is going to replace these two heroes
  7. The TV show is going to be more woke than Jesus after he rolled back the stone

“Hope”

Actually, given The Smartest Man Alive’s track record for keeping controversy far, far away from his films — instead choosing to let others bloviate about the cultural significance — this could be very, very responsible and internally-focused.
