Based On The Novel By William Lindsay Gresham

According to various reports, Leonardo DiCaprio is in negotiations to star in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Nightmare Alley.

The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel about a con artist who teams up with a psychiatrist, and she is an even more masterful manipulator than he is. But what starts as a fruitful criminal partnership takes a turn when she scams DiCaprio’s professional scammer.

A loose adaptation of the film starring Tyrone Power was released in in 1947, but reports suggest the del Toro version will be rooted more in the novel than the loose adaptation.

DiCaprio has been patient since The Revenant in choosing his follow-up projects. He’ll next be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, alongside Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

Since 2017’s The Shape Of Water, Del Toro has been somewhat patient too, he wrote this new script with Kim Morgan and will produce with J. Miles Dale. The film is being financed by del Toro and Dale, with TSG Entertainment.
