Time Bandits Is Heading To Small Screen

According to Deadline, the television adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s cult fantasy has found a home as an original show produced by Apple. Gilliam will not be writing the new Time Bandits series, but he will be attached as an executive producer.

Gilliam co-wrote and directed the original film in 1981, and it quickly struck a chord at the box office before becoming a fan favourite movie.

Time Bandits follows the time-travelling adventures of 11-year-old history buff Kevin,  after six dwarfs emerge from his cupboard, featuring Star Wars‘ Kenny Baker and other actors of similar stature.

The impressive cast included David Rappaport, Sean Connery, David Warner, Shelley Duvall, Ian Holm, Jim Broadbent and Ralph Richardson, as well as fellow Pythons Michael Palin and John Cleese.

The original production was made by Handmade Films, the company from former Beatles guitarist George Harrison (who penned its closing credits theme, Dream Away) and Denis O’Brien that was behind 1979 Monty Python comedy Life Of Brian.

More on this as we hear it.
