Carrie, one of Steven King’s greatest novels that was also turned into one of the iconic horror films of the 70’s by Brian DePalma, is getting turned into a limited series.

If it winds up going past the pilot stage, it would be just the latest attempt to milk the novel by Hollywood.

Remember, a sequel film The Rage: Carrie 2, was released in 1999, as well as a remake of the original with Chloë Grace Moretz, in 2013.

Very few details are available about the show, but it is being developed by FX and MGM Television, which had success together adapting Fargo into a series which was a lot better than it probably deserved to be.

CIS is BAD

One of the few details that have come out about the project is that the producers behind the show want to apparently go woke with the character.

The plan is to change the character of Carrie from the white female she is in the novel to “either a trans performer or an actress of color”.

Now if they want to update the character for whatever reason, that’s their business.

However, when King wrote the novel, the character being a female on her period was one of the central ideas behind it, with her hormones being what caused her to have her powers.

According to King himself…

“I got an idea for a story about this incident in a girls’ shower room, and the girl would be telekinetic. The other girls would pelt her with sanitary napkins when she got her period. The period would release the right hormones and she would rain down destruction on them.”

If they go and choose to make the character transgender, then they’re pretty much throwing out the core concept of the book.

King also has said…

Carrie is largely about how women find their own channels of power, and what men fear about women and women’s sexuality.”

But if you turn Carrie transgender, then all that is out the window and you’re just using someone else’s creation to further your own political agenda.

People can refer to themselves as whatever they want, but if the character refers to themselves as it/them/they instead of she, you’re straying from what King intended.

The new Biology 101

If you’re thinking the biology in this take may be off and everything is going to have to be completely rewritten because transgendered people can’t have periods, that’s just not the case

And if you also think that that iconic scenes such as Carrie having tampons thrown at her are going to be out the window because they don’t make tampons for transgendered individuals, please head down to the office for some reprogramming.

It’s still too early to give the show a debut date.
