Jim Henson Classic Getting The Prequel Treatment

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, the Jim Henson series is coming to Netflix. With a top-tier cast already attached, it’ll be based on the classic 1982 movie.

This new version will be set many years before the events of the film.

So, Who Is This Stellar Cast?

Voicing what are called Gelfling characters, Taron Egerton (Kingsman) will star as lead character Rian. Anya Taylor (The Witch) voices Brea and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game Of Thrones) is Deet.

Catriona Balfe (Outlander) is playing an unnamed character alongside Helena Bonham-Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, and Alicia Vikander.

And voicing the Skeksis and Mystics are Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg.

The rest of the cast includes Harris Dickinson, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and Donna Kimball.

What’s The Story?

The official synopsis is:

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realised using classic puppetry with cutting-edge visual effects.

“The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power.”

“But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land.”

“When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.”

When Is It Released On Netflix?

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will premiere in 2019. The series comes from The Jim Henson Company and executive producers Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me).
