The Reasons…

Home Alone, the film that launched the career of Macaulay Culkin, is getting a reboot from Disney now that the Mouse House owns 20th Century Fox Studios’ back catalog of film properties.

I survived Michael Jackson for THIS! FOR THIS!!!

From the trades:

News of a Home Alone project was first floated in August by Disney’s Bob Iger during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. He called out Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen as Fox library franchises that would see new life on Disney+.

Welcome to Disney+.

All your childhood memories belong to us.

Of course, Culkin has an opinion about this:

The Reason for this Reboot is Franchise Possibilities

Yesterday, casting decisions were announced for this reboot—or maybe it’s a reimaging—from the fine folks at Disney.

The kid looks just like you would expect a kid to look who’s been left home alone.

From the trades, here is your all-new Home Alone cast:

Archie Yates, currently onscreen in a supporting role in Fox Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit, has been cast alongside Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney in the film, which is set to begin shooting early next year in Canada.

This means that the only funny, somewhat relevant, thing Rob Delaney has done in his career to date, Catastrophe, is going to get its fourth season pushed back another year on Amazon Prime.

What Are We To Make of All of This?

There will be a new, rebooted Home Alone, but, well, other details are unclear.

Actually, Feige, I will do it all myself.

From the trades:

The plot is unclear on the new Home Alone; at the time, Iger said only that the new movies will be “reimagined” for “a new generation.”
