Do You Believe It Now, Goblins?

According to the fine folks over at Screenrant, the screenwriter of Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw has been in ongoing talks with Keanu Reeves about joining the mega-franchise.

Chris Morgan knows what he’s doing having at least co-writing credits on EIGHT Fast & Furiouses starting with Tokyo Drift back in 2006, which was a shot of adrenaline the franchise needed especially after the mess that was 2Fast 2Furious.

No disrespect to John Singleton intended.

Interestingly, Keanu was in early talks to join Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson and Idris Elba as the head of the terrorist organization Eteon.

Chris Morgan explains:

“I sat down with him and we’re talking about. I wanted him to be in the Fast universe for a very long time.the hardest thing is always time and competing schedules and then designing the right thing together. My fervent desire is to bring him into this franchise for sure.”

This role was reduced to a “disembodied voice” which is a sign of backhanded respect which I think was smart considering they are still circling each other.

My fingers smell a bit like money… but not enough money.

Would He Have Helped Hobbs & Shaw?

That’s difficult to say because I only watched the first fifteen minutes of it and that was by accident.

I went to the drive-in and thought it was one of those long-ass artsy commercials for watches or some shit until I realized I was parked at the wrong screen.

I will admit that these franchises are not my jam but based on the eclectic cast they attract and balls-out action I support them spiritually, if not financially.

They don’t seem to be missing me either as even the decently received and reviewed first spin-off drove off with $758 Million worldwide.

You Are Witnessing The Keanussance

I didn’t realize Keanu Reeves ever went away, but maybe that he was just away from movies people really wanted to see him in.

After 2003’s The Matrix: Revolutions he worked consistently and broadly and remained pretty high profile as a result but celebrity status doesn’t always equate success.

It wasn’t until 2014’s John Wick got under the audience’s skin when he seemed to be a name worth banking on.

Duly so Canada’s own “cool breeze” is once again a viable commodity in Hollywood with John Wick Chapter 4, The Matrix 4 and will face the music in Bill and Ted 3 all in active development.

Fast & Furious 9 is currently shooting for a 2020 release and you can look for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw on DVD, BluRay and 4k Ultra HD November 5th.

I leave you with this song from the end-credits of NetFlix’s delightful Always Be My Maybe in which Keanu Reeves is quite hilarious:
