Thank The Maker!

Hang on, I think I have my space-based sci-fi fantasy epics mixed up.  This is the one with the Cylons, right?  Just kidding.  Who hasn’t read Dune, or at least seen David Lynch’s brave but ultimately futile 1984 adaption?

Many have tried, before or since, to adapt arguably the most famous and influential sci-fi novel in history.  Ultimately they all came to nothing.  However finally Blade Runner 2049 and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve took up the reigns, declaring it his dream project and a lifelong ambition.

There was some confusion over whether the movie would be split into more than one part. Villeneuve always seemed to think so, but nobody at Legendary would confirm it.

The Suit Speaks

Legendary CEO Joshua Grode, speaking with THR today, finally confirmed that they are fully onboard with the two-film plan and seems intent on making the sequel:

“That’s the plan. There’s a backstory that was hinted at in some of the books [that we expanded]. Also, when you read the book there’s a logical place to stop the movie before the book is over.”

The cast for this is world-class.  It includes Timothee  Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

A month of filming has completed, and yet some key roles remain uncast including Feyd, Irulan, and Emperor Shaddam IV.

Dune Part I will open November 20th, 2020.
