Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton are being bandied about in the latest round of rumblings about the slow-moving remake.

Though neither one is really right this sort of makes sense as both are in the midst of a pretty hot awards season.

Egerton won a Golden Globe for his turn as Elton John in Rocket Man while ScarJo is up for two, count them, two Academy Awards for acting!

For those of you who don’t know Little Shop of Horrors is a story about a down on its luck flower shop who comes across a rare and unusual plant. Fortunes turn and grow as fast as the plant does but all at a terrible cost.

The story first came to life as a movie by Roger Corman in 1960 featuring Jack Nicholson in one of his early roles.

It was adapted into a stage musical in 1982 and had successful runs in such fine cities as New York, London and Sydney.

In 1986 it was re-adapted into a film helmed by Yoda himself — Frank Oz — and starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin and Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops as the talking and singing plant.

It also had an amazing string of cameos from the likes of John Candy, Bill Murray and Christopher Guest.

Since then it had some life as an animated series and talks of a remake have been mumbled about here and there.

Most recently in 2016, when it was revealed that Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash) was set to direct a reboot based on a script from Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying, Monster Trucks) for Warner Bros.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lady fucking GaGa and Josh Gad have been connected to a Little Shop remake but they seem to be just names added to an increasingly long list of people who at some point probably said: “maybe… kinda.”

Ultimately I don’t see this or any new version flying.

The play is its own thing and the 1986 movie, from the casting, the sets, the song choices, the PUPPETRY, to the editing was pretty much perfect, no matter which ending you prefer.

An ideal ending for this project would be it never starting.

Peace and plant life.
