In a recent interview with the BBC, Marvel Cinematic Universe Boss Of Bosses and Smartest Man Alive, Kevin Fiege (May Peace Be Upon Him) dropped this vagary:

“Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works.

We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world.”

Who?

In Marvel Comics, Ms. Marvel is a young, Pakistani-American Muslim girl from Jersey City named Kamala Khan. She is essentially a huge fan-girl of Captain Marvel who also happens to have some shape-shifting abilities due to Inhuman DNA.

They have some real issues with perspective over at Marvel

This variation of the character was introduced in 2014 by Marvel editor Sana Amanat who is also a Pakistani Muslim. Sana Amanat is neither an artist nor a writer but majored in political science and had very limited experience in the industry before being hired by Marvel in 2009.

Prior to this article, I had never heard of Amanat or the Muslim Ms. Marvel but I have witnessed some of the identity politics that seems to have overtaken the comic industry, and particularly Marvel, in the last decade.

A lot of people are seeing a precipitous drop-off in the quality of product at the same time there is a obvious and ham-handed injection of “diverse” characters and left-of-center topical politics.

Nazis now include Trump supporters, Republicans and anyone who disagrees with free college

In my opinion, this Ms. Marvel incarnation seems strikingly similar to what Kathleen Kennedy is doing over at LucasFilm: basically putting herself — or her idealized self — into the product.

Of course, the Ms. Marvel comic book was hailed as a breakthrough of both culture and the art form itself, and went on to win the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story in 2015.

Now, I would like to think an evangelical Christian, Iraqi war veteran editor who put himself into a comic book would have received the same kind of glowing reception and celebration but we all know that’s just not the case.

The media, academia and pop culture “elite” are obsessed with diversity at the cost of everything else. And they will attack and silence anyone who mentions it.

Take This All With A Grain Of Ajwain

Notice he says “sort of”. Kevin Fiege has said a lot of things that I read as simply playing to the audiences of the particular channel or venue that Fiege is being interviewed by.

He is a very shrewd individual and understand how to narrow-cast.

Remember when he talked about a solo Valkerie movie, a Valkerie Girl-Team movie, etc?

However, let’s not forget that:

Diversity Sells… If You Do It Right

Go ahead and do a Google search for “allintitle: Black Panther New York Times”.

All the articles at The New York Times containing “Black Panther” in the title.

Then do a Google search for “allintitle: Avengers Infinity War New York Times”.

All the articles at The New York Times containing “Avengers: Infinity War” in the title.

You see what I mean? Black Panther, which was lauded as the most diverse movie of all time, has twice as many articles about it as Avengers: Infinity War, the biggest MCU movie of all time.

The New York Times is known as “The paper of record”. It is one of the thought-leaders that other thought-leaders, trend-setters and influencers on all platforms take their cue from.

A similar phenomenon can be seen at The Washington Post, Time magazine and much of the legacy media that the vast majority of new media apes.

Fiege knows this. Create a politically safe movie that will be perceived and celebrated as diverse and just let the elite media and pop culture do all your marketing for you.

This is what LucasFilm should have done.

Except Kathleen Kennedy is too arrogant, too insecure and too fucking stupid to keep her politics out of the mouths of the characters in her Star Wars movies.
