Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was much loved by me growing up.  Gene Wilder’s portrayal in the 1970’s version will be hard to beat.  Johnny Depp, with his off-kilter Michael Jackson impression and endless Tim Burton Dutch angles from 13 years ago, doesn’t come close.

There is a sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, which has never been filmed.
