Hollywood’s Creative Talent Have Left The Building

Well, here’s a sentence I never thought I’d ever write, the Saw franchise is being rebooted, courtesy of Chris Rock.

After eight franchise films already in the can, Lionsgate’s Saw franchise is about to be rebooted by the most unlikely of sources. Chris Rock, the star of Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2, signed on to bring his updated version of Saw to the big screen and is working with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures.

The comedian already has a screenplay written for the new film, and that is set to be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed Saw II, III, and IV.

Rock took his idea for his own spinoff of the horror flick to Lionsgate, his story “reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer.” The producers promised the movie would be an event film.

The last Saw movie, titled Jigsaw, came out in 2017 and was the eighth movie in the franchise that started way back in 2004. And now is the time to apparently let Rock take a crack at it, and he’ll executive produce the film.

Rock said in a statement:

“I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place”

Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who penned Jigsaw, are writing the script based on Rock’s story.

The release date for Rock’s Saw is set to drop just before Halloween on October 23, 2020.
