“The Project Is Not On The Slate At The Moment”
A reboot of 1985 movie Red Sonja directed by Bryan Singer has been shelved in the wake of the underage sex allegations which he currently faces.
Singer signed on for the gig back in the fall of 2017 and despite being fired from Bohemian Rhapsody a few weeks later, producers Millennium Films apparently paid $10m to secure Singer for the project.
But now the movie will not go ahead after Millennium Films withdrew it from a sales pitch at the European Film Market.
The company dropped Singer last month after Atlantic Magazine published an article that detailed sexual abuse claims against the director from four men.
Millennium’s CEO/founder Avi Lerner released Singer from the film due to financial pressures finally becoming too much for the company. A spokesperson explained that the film was “not on the slate at the moment” and was “not for sale at the European Film Market in Berlin.”
Although Singer has not yet been officially removed, shooting planned to happen in Bulgaria later this year has been canceled.
Singer has denied any wrongdoing and described the allegations as a “homophobic smear.”
