You’ll Never Work in This Town Again!

The casting couch, the promised deal in exchange for sexual favors, and even the casual exposing of ones’ genitals to a member of the opposite sex seem to be on the way out as ways of working–and getting work–in Hollywood.

I do like pink pastel suits from the late 70s. All the better to look good in when your car blows up.

The latest victim of a sexual harassment lawsuit is the paragon of film toughness, virility, and Italian power, Robert DeNiro.

Accused by a former employee of his production company, Canal Productions of unwanted “physical contact,” and unwanted “sexually charged” comments, as well as treating the victim like his “office wife,” the accuser, Ms. [Graham Chase] Robinson, has released an audio recording of DeNiro, well, being something approximating DeNiro.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a Problem

DeNiro, who in the last three and a half years has mostly continued to keep his name in the public eye by not only bashing Trump but also threatening anyone who defends Trump, has been on the road promoting his new film The Irishman.

I should be out there reading this with you. But I don’t trust anyone else to lead this film site.

He’s also been dropping expletive-laden rants on CNN, yelling like he’s actually Jake LaMotta to anyone who will listen, and, in general, adopting with relish too many of the traits of the characters he used to portray in his movies 30 to 40 years ago.

From the man himself:

“In one example, De Niro allegedly went ballistic on the woman, calling her a “spoiled brat” in an explicit voicemail when she did not answer his phone call, according to the suit.
“How dare you f—— disrespect me?,” he said in the voicemail, in which he also told her: “You’re f—— history.”

So, pretty much par for the course.

One More Man, #MeToo’ed?

I’ve often said that we don’t really know actors, celebrities, athletes, politicians, or any of the folks who make their daily bread by pretending, reading words that other people wrote for them to say, or who snuffle at the trough of public corruption.

You have all been judged and found wanting.

The plaintiff’s attorney for this suit has mentioned Harvey Weinstein and his behavior in relation to DeNiro’s alleged behavior with the plaintiff.

I write “alleged” because nothing has been proven in court, and the presence of due process–the bedrock of legality in the Western world for the last 200 years–isn’t the problem.

No matter what the supporters of the plaintiff might say or think.

The problem is that too many people hold actors, celebrities, athletes, and politicians in high esteem.

Too many people faultily presuming that, because actors, celebrities, athletes, and politicians have “talent,” that they don’t have the same peccadillos that the average man (or woman) may have, is the actual problem.

What do you all think about the TDS stricken DeNiro potentially getting his comeuppance?
