Movie To Tell True Story Of The Battle of Midway

Rights to Roland Emmerich’s Midway are close to selling out around the world, weeks after Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios shopped the World War II action epic at Cannes.

The new raft of sales includes deals with prominent distribution companies in Europe’s top five territories: Lionsgate (UK), Universum (Germany), Film Export (France), ILF (Italy) and Diamond (Spain), Summit Entertainment (U.S.), Bona Film (China). In short, only Australia and Japan have yet to close.

Based on true events, The Battle of Midway took place just six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour. From June 4 to June 7, 1942, the United States Navy under Admirals Chester Nimitz, Frank Jack Fletcher, and Raymond A. Spruance fought the attacking forces of the Imperial Japanese Navy near Midway Atoll.

As we know, this battle was a decisive turning point in the Pacific theatre of World War II, Japan sought to eliminate the United States as a military power in the Pacific. By the end of the fighting, the United States had dealt a decisive blow to Japan and inflicted irreparable damage to the Japanese Navy.

The film is in pre-production with principal photography set to start September 3, according to the production. Midway‘s cast so far includes Woody Harrelson and Mandy Moore.
