Rosario Dawson has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming HBO Max pilot DMZ.

The show is based on the graphic novel of the same name published by Vertigo, which prior to closing down a few weeks ago, was owned by DC Comics.

DMZ is about a future American civil war in which NYC is a demilitarized zone cut off from the rest of the country. The comic was pretty well receive and had a healthy run of six years.

Dawson will play Alma Ortego, a medic searching for her lost son in the violent and lawless jungle that New York has become. A jungle that is somehow even worse than it is now.

This is the second attempt to turn the comic into a series. In 2014 SyFy made an attempt, but it wound up going nowhere.

Directing the pilot will be Ava DuVernay, who also will serve as one of the show’s executive producers.

This is DuVernay’s second comic-based project as she is also developing a New Gods movie for Warner Brothers as well.

I’m sure she is a very talented person and friends with Oprah, but why Hollywood keeps on pushing her into these types of projects is beyond my understanding, especially after the failure that A Wrinkle In Time was.

Do you know anyone who thinks Ava DuVernay and comic books is a good idea?

Dawson and DuVernay are both very politically active, so there is no way they are going to get involved in a project like this without making sure their political agenda is not pushed onto the viewer. Get ready to be told how awful society is and how they know the way to rebuild it properly.
