More Fox X-Men Movies?
After the deal with Disney, many assumed Disney and Marvel would be taking over most of Fox’s superhero properties. Now in a strange turn of events, it seems Fox is actually upping their output of superhero movies for the next two years. In 2018 they have the already filmed Deadpool 2 dropping on the 18th of May. Then in early November they have the fourth and possibly final first class X-Men movies in Dark Phoenix. 2019 bring’s New Mutants, currently undergoing re shoots, and possibly the long gestating Gambit film.
Now comes word that along with the above movies pushing forward under the Fox brand, They are currently developing three or more secret projects to be released in 2019 on. One is rumored to be a possible Dr. Doom standalone movie(Really?) while another is a possible Kitty Pride standalone. A much more intriguing story is the now supposed reentry into the world of the Silver Surfer.
Silver Surfer
The Silver Surfer is a humanoid with metallic skin who can travel space with the aid of his surfboard-like craft. Norrin Radd, an astronomer living on the planet Zenn-La, saved his home planet from Galactus by serving him. Imbued in return with a tiny portion of Galactus’s Power Cosmic, Radd acquired vast power, a new body and a surfboard-like craft on which he could travel faster than light. Now known as the Silver Surfer, he roamed the cosmos searching for planets for Galactus to consume. When his travels took him to Earth, he met the Fantastic Four, a team of powerful superheroes who helped him rediscover his humanity. Betraying Galactus, the Surfer saved Earth but was exiled there as punishment.
Fox has hired Brian K Vaughn(Runaways, Saga) to write the script for them. It will be interesting to see how much control Disney/Marvel will exert in Fox’s movie studio now that the deal has gone though and if any of these characters eventually make their way to the Avengers universe.
