Now that Christmas is over let’s go back to our favorite pastime: obsessing over The Rise of Skywalker’s box office results.

This past week

Despite debuting this past weekend to lower than expected numbers, Skywalker has been doing a lot better than expected during the week.

Audiences have reacted to the film a lot better than critics and it seems to be helping at the box office.

Skywalker took in $29M on Monday, which was only a drop of 27% from Sunday, and has been tracking to do better during its second week than The Last Jedi, which opened to $43M more than Skywalker two years ago.

Christmas and the days ahead

Skywalker enjoyed a very healthy Christmas day.

It is currently being projected to have taken in $35M on the holiday, which is the second-highest Christmas day gross ever after The Force Awakens at $49.3M.

Last Jedi celebrated Jesus’ birthday with $27.4M.

The last film in the Star Wars saga has so far made about $261M in six days and only 6% behind Last Jedi’s pace.

Currently estimates are projecting Skywalker to take in somewhere between $85M – $100M this weekend. After its Christmas results were announced, the higher end of that seems quite likely and it’s box office gross Monday morning could be somewhere in the range of $345M – $360M.

This film has been up and down so much that it’s difficult for anyone to know what is really going to happen.

Check back on Monday to get the final hard numbers.
