OK, Everyone Calm Down

These are just rumors, albeit rumors from a very reliable source: Star Wars News Net.

From the article at SWNN:

A contact, who has worked on every Disney Star Wars film, has shared some interesting information. According to them, the next Star Wars film could possibly begin filming this Fall, and it will be the first film in the series of films by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

According to this contact:

“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more Game of Thrones style audience.”

Where is her helmet? Doesn’t she know about practicing safe combat?

The Old Republic Era, also referred to as the Sith Era, takes place from 25,053 BBY, when The Republic was founded, until around 1000 BBY or the Seventh Battle of Ruusan.

For normal people, BBY stands for Before the Battle of Yavin, or when Luke did the thing.

This massive timeline has been covered extensively in gaming, especially with the classic Knights Of The Old Republic and the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The games are regarded as the best thing to come out of Star Wars since the original trilogy, so making movies that surpassed them is a battle I do not think they can win.

When asked to clarify further, this anonymous hero stated:

“So the timeline is hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.”

Star Wars meets Lord Of The Rings? That sounds pretty badass!

Oh…

The script has been finalized and art departments are full swing into the design phase.

Hello There, Man-Babies!

In addition to the rumor about The Old Republic trilogy, there is some old news we did not report about an Obi-Wan series on the streaming platform, Disney+.

Also from Star Wars News Net:

We were told that an Obi-Wan Kenobi limited TV series is happening, is the next top priority for the Disney+ streaming service, and that it could be as many as six episodes.

Obi-Wan bravely deflects coordinated harassment bolts from incel trolls!

This rumor seems a lot less substantial than the Old Republic one. There are no quotes, no details, no vetting of the source — just, “we were told.”

Keep in mind there were also rumors about a Boba Fett movie prior to Solo bombing.

It could all just be Disney floating balloons and keeping the fanboy pump primed in the run-up to Episode IX.

After the disappointment of The Last Jedi and the unmitigated disaster of Solo, they really need all eyes to be on positive elements of the franchise like The Old Republic and Obi-Wan.
