If there was one game that could make me forget about Super Mario growing up, it was the little blue blur, Sonic the Hedgehog. He was full of attitude and blast processing, and since I was about 9 years old at the time, that was a perfect combination for me.

According to Deadline, Sonic is set to make his solo film debut on November 15, 2019. Having already appeared in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph, as well as a handful of his own television cartoon shows, Sonic is no stranger to being whored out for entertainment dollars.

It will be interesting to see how this film is approached. Will it be all CG or will there be a mix of live action involved? Will Daniel Day-Lewis come out of retirement to play Dr. Robotnik?

I’m sure Hollywood will be watching anxiously as this will be the first movie starring one of the big video game mascots since the ill-fated live action Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993. The closest comparison from recent memory would be the animated 2016 Ratchet & Clank movie which grossed just over $13 million on a $20 million budget.

It’ll be almost two years before we bust out our red high tops and score some hot anthropomorphic woodland creature action, so, in the meantime, I’ll see you all at the Furry convention next month in Des Moines.
