Carrie Fisher Will Make A Posthumous Appearance
Disney has announced the cast for Episode IX and it will include the late Carrie Fisher.
Fisher will reprise her role as General Leia Organa, using “previously unreleased footage shot for The Force Awakens.” director J.J. Abrams announced Friday.
Abrams said in a statement, “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
This official statement perhaps confirms a lot of suspicions that Disney are totally making this up as they go along.
Lando Calrissian Next Up For Kennedy’s Cosmic Guillotine?
Disney/Lucasfilm also announced that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.
Williams has in recent years returned to the role that fuels his appearances on the convention circuit, voicing Calrissian in various Star Wars cartoon series and video games.
Mark Hamill will return as Luke Skywalker, alongside cast members Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Kelly Marie Tran reprises her role as the Galaxy’s favourite janitor, Rose Tico. Also joining the cast are Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.
Episode IX is set to open December 20, 2019.
