The Darker End Of The Spectrum

Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy has revealed that the show’s third season will be a lot darker than anyone is expecting.

The news regarding the delay of season 3 was announced in the form of a faux commercial for Starcourt Mall. It doesn’t feature any footage from the upcoming run, but we did see newcomer Maya Thurman Hawke and regular Joe Keery feature as Robin and Steve, now working in the mall’s ice cream store.

When asked if the bright and cheery commercial was indicative of the direction the third season could take, producer Shawn Levy was quick to shoot down that preconception:

“There’s no question that, as you saw in that infomercial, Starcourt Mall is a part of season 3. As is summertime. So season 3 has a really healthy dose of poppy, bright levity and cultural fun. But I can only promise you that season 3 eventually goes places that are darker, and unquestionably more action-packed, than we’ve ever gone before … It would be a mistake for anyone to think that season 3 is the summer of fun and lightness because it’s a whole lot more than that.”

Plot details on the new run remain under wraps but the show’s producers recently shared that Season 3 will take place during the summer of 1985, a year after Season 2. Plus, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard), as well as Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink), will begin the season as couples. We know that Eleven will get another new look, as she finally gets to be a regular teen, and her adoptive father, Sheriff Hopper, may finally see some action – hopefully it’s with Joyce Byers.
