The Working Title For The Film Is Peninsula

South Korean zombie movie Train To Busan is getting a sequel. Yeon Sang-ho, who directed both the original Train To Busan and animated prequel Seoul Station, has begun writing, with plans to film in 2019.

If you haven’t already seen this, you really need to sort that out.

One my top movie choices from 2016. Check it out.

While minimal details are offered, the working title to the film is Peninsula, per a representative of the South Korean director, who likewise provided slight plot snippets:

“The film will revisit the same zombie virus that was seen in the original movie, except this time the focus will be expanded to the entire Korean peninsula. We are planning to begin filming in the first half of next year. We still have not cast any actors, so we are still preparing a lot of different things.”

Train To Busan was released in July 2016 in South Korea, starring Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok and Jung Yu-mi. It chronicled the chaos that ensues after a deadly virus sweeps through Korea and passengers aboard a bullet train from Seoul to the southern port city of Busan, which is ensconced from the zombie outbreak, must fight for their survival.

The movie became a global hit, breaking not just plenty of box office records in South Korea but also raking in over $87.5 million worldwide.

Train To Busan emerged as the most watched film in Korea in 2016 and the only movie that year to breach the 10-million ticket mark. To date, it is the 11th best-selling film of all time in Korea.

Here’s the trailer for the original:

The sequel will start filming next year.
