“Open The Pod Bay Doors, HAL”

Stanley Kubrick’s classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey has its trailer released to coincide with the celebration of the film’s original release 50 years ago. The movie won an Oscar in 1969 for Best Special Visual Effects in addition to being nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Cannes: it’s full of stars

To celebrate this momentous anniversary, Warner Bros. Pictures will debut a new 70mm print, struck from the original negative (and free of digital remastering) at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on May 12 and will be presented by Christopher Nolan.

It seems unbelievable that it was released five decades ago. But that’s why Kubrick is considered to be one of the great artists of our time, and his movie is officially listed as one of the most significant contributions to cinema.

Warner Bros will be re-releasing the film in theaters on May 18. There will also be a 4K HDR Blu-ray release sometime in the fall of 2018.
