Take one gravelly-voiced mid-tier action star, add improbable or impossible situations, and stir in everybody’s go-to stoic in the form of Morgan Freeman.  Then you’ve got the recipe for a mid-budget action movie of the kind they didn’t seem to make any more.

Lionsgate and Millennium Films follow up to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and 2016’s London Has Fallen has lost Aaron Ekhart in the role of President, but assembles an impressive cast.

Nick Nolte, Danny Huston, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Piper Perabo, Mark Gill, Matt O’Toole, Alan Siegel, and John Thompson join Gerard Butler returning as Mike Banning.

After an assassination attempt is made on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Freeman). His trusted confidant and ex-Secret Service super-agent Banning is wrongfully accused and taken into custody. After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President.

Shot Caller Director Roman Waugh helms.  The script was written by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.  The movie will be in theatres on August 23rd.
