“Stop. Stop. STOP!”
Jean Grey, DARK PHOENIX

I think we can all relate. Here are the comic book movies being released in 2019:

  • Captain Marvel
  • Shazam
  • Hellboy
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Dark Phoenix
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • New Mutants
  • Joker
  • Spawn (Maybe)

No, Glass doesn’t count. It’s an anti-superhero movie.

Those nine movies up there represent at least $1 billion dollars in production costs and maybe another billion dollars in marketing.

What happened to mid-budget action movies? thrillers? A cop drama they make for $60 million? Have a look at the action movies we got 20 years ago, before the X-Men franchise began this assault on originality and common decency:

That’s seven 3+ star movies and three classics on the first panel.

Movies like that can’t exist in a world of shared universes, reboots, spinoffs, remakes, etc.

It’s either the next comic book, broad comedy, a cartoon, horror or it’s Oscar bait. That’s it.

This is not just superhero fatigue, it’s Fan Interest Virus. At what point does it develop into Audience Interest Deficiency Syndrome?

I know, I know… AIDS might not be the best metaphor. It’s more like an overdose.

Anyway, here is the trailer for Fox’s last X-Men movie — enjoy:

The drama. The artistry. The originality. How do they keep doing it? Sure glad they just gave us the same exact story elements as X-Men: The Last Stand because God knows sometimes safe is betta.

I mean, it’s not like they have something fresh and new to show fans. It’s all been done!
