Harry Potter Duo Reunites In YouTube Original

YouTube dropped the first trailer for the new sci-fi series Origin, at the New York City Comic-Con.

It is directed by Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Tom Felton and Natalia Tena, aka Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy and Nymphadora Tonks, respectively.

One of these people looks psychotic, the other is an albino serial-killing cannibal

Set in a dystopic future, the Siren Corp has found a new planet for us to ruin called Thea and builds a massive ship with which to colonize it.

For some reason, your memory will be altered before your Thea trip to “erase your past completely” so that you can “forget the ones you left behind”.

Why would you wipe out your memory if you are a doctor, mechanic, scientist? Do you get retrained? Is it a selective memory wipe, as you can remember who you are and what you can do but not people from your past?

They don’t seem to be too selective in who they turn into space pioneers, as the story revolves around a drug dealer (Felton), a person suffering from PTSD (Tena), and Yakuza member (first-timer Sen Mitsuji).

During the trip, 11 colonists wake up to find the massive ship abandoned. One of them appears to know that they were attacked by “something”.

Blah, blah, blah.

With hints of Lost, Blade Runner, Alien, Battlestar Galactica, Passengers, Nightflyers, you name it, it probably feels like we’ve seen it all before.

But, for as goofy and recycled as it sounds, the trailer looks pretty sharp:

The official synopsis reads:

Origin follows a group of strangers stranded on a spacecraft bound for a distant planet. The abandoned passengers must work together for survival, but quickly realize that one of them is far from who they claim to be.

Not So Fast

I must say that the marketing for this show is a bit misleading as the Harry Potter Alumni are not in all ten episodes and Anderson only directed two of them. Nor does the declaration “From the producers of The Crown And producers Of Lost” inspire much confidence.

As we probably never heard of the rest of the cast and crew, they had to sell it somehow.

Origin premieres on YouTube Premium on November 14.
