Hi, Goblins!

Another day another trailer for a movie based on a book based on somebody’s sad life. Misery loves profitability.

Coming straight out of Oprah’s book club is A Million Little Pieces.

Check it out:

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass 1 & 2), Billy Bob Thornton, Odessa Young (Assassination Nation), Charlie Hunnam, Giovanni Ribisi and Juliette Lewis.

The screenplay is adapted and written by brother-sister duo Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

This book came out in and was immediately heralded as a “the War and Peace of addiction” spending 15 weeks atop the New York Times bestseller list until it turns out it wasn’t entirely true and everyone piled on.

Author James Frey was exposed as embellishing, fabricating or blatantly stealing the majority of elements of the supposed memoir and it was later relabeled as ‘Misery Lit’.

Film Goblin touched on this deception earlier.

All that aside, it was a powerful and awful story of how addiction can take someone to the brink of disaster and the incredible strength and support it takes to pull yourself back.

A movie version was announced shortly after the book hit but it wasn’t until 2017 that this version was given the green light.

Despite all the controversy, it’s a good cast working on a compelling story.

I’ll admit it I read this book during its day and was moved by it and subsequently felt a little burned when the facts came out and couldn’t believe James Frey wasn’t banished. Instead, he wrote a sequel called My Friend Leonard who is being played by Billy Bob Thornton, who I always like so as it stands now I think I’ll watch this.

Funny how shit works.
