Two Different Versions Will Be Released By End Of 2018
Since it premiered at Cannes this year, The House That Jack Built has been getting A LOT of heat from both critics and audiences.
The film directed by Lars von Trier, involves Jack (Matt Dillon), a serial killer. The film’s synopsis reads:
“The story follows Jack, a highly intelligent serial killer, over the course of 12 years and depicts the murders that truly develop Jack as a serial killer”
Here’s the trailer:
Reviews haven’t been kind. People walked out of the Cannes Festival screenings in May, where critics and movie-goers quoted some words like “vomitive” and “disgusting” to describe it.
Here are a couple of examples:
I’ve never seen anything like this at a film festival. More than 100 people have walked out of Lars von Trier’s ‘The House That Jack Built,’ which depicts the mutilation of women and children. “It’s disgusting,” one woman said on her way out. #Cannes2018 pic.twitter.com/GsBGCoyHEG

‘I loathed the film from the very bottom of my heart – its violence was totally gratuitous ’

The reason I stopped watching Lars Von Trier movies is because he does not like, nor respect his audience. I was done being his chew toy.
Congrats to IFC on a guerilla marketing campaign that perfectly matches your director.

I guess some people need their serial killers to be more considerate and woke these days.
Well… not everyone:
i sincerely regret to inform you that THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT will 100% be on my list of the year’s best films. please make your peace with that now.

IFC Films will release The House That Jack Built in a one-night-only unrated form on November 28th, and that version will be the uncut version that the Cannes audience watched.
On December 14th, an R-rated edit of the film will be released both in theaters and on VOD, likely cutting out the gorier stuff.
