Remember Blade Back in the 1990s?

From the trades:

“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.”

Two things about this trailer right off the bat:

  1. This should have been made in the 1990’s right after Blade, the way that New Line Cinema promised us.
  2. This is the best use of Jared Leto that there’s been in a while, and that includes his use as the Joker in Suicide Squad.

Referencing Previous Spider-Man Characters

With the stinger at the end of the trailer, you can see Sony working toward a Sinister Six movie, seeing as how now they are on “good terms” with Disney and the MCU.

So, Sony now has the impetus to not screw this one up.

What Are We To Make of All of This?

Jared Leto solving a blood disease and becoming a blood-borne vampire pathogen himself looks like it’s got legs.

Future trailers will reveal more of Tyrese Gibson and that will be the real tell as to where the story is going here.

Morbius premiers on July 31 in theaters.
