Do you like jump scares?

Then you’ll probably be interested in the trailer for the upcoming horror film The Haunted.

Emily’s arrives for her first night-shift as a care-giver, to an elderly dementia patient. In an isolated house her night turns into a nightmare as she is tormented by a vengeful spirit, and starts to uncover the house’s dark secrets.

Written and directed by David Holroyd, the film is made by and stars a group of mostly unknowns.

That’s not really a problem though. Horror is a category of movies where a low budget often works to the filmmaker’s advantage and where something being a labor of love often comes through and appreciated by fans of the genre.

Unfortunately, the problem for The Haunted is that, as mentioned already, the movie looks like a bunch of jump scares strung together into a 90 to 120-minute format.

The title is also very generic and there are several other films with “haunt” in the title that you can easily confuse the film with.

Also the haunted what? The haunted house? Mansion? Boat? Staircase?

If you’re a horror fan, maybe this is something you would go for. I don’t see this appealing to too many people beyond that.

The film was already released this past summer in the Philippines of all places.

The Haunted releases May 22 direct to video.
