Say what you will about the quality of the stuff they put out, but Netflix has no problem attracting names to their productions.

Case in point, the trailer for The Last Thing He Wanted.

A veteran D.C. journalist loses the thread of her own narrative when a guilt-propelled errand for her father thrusts her from byline to unwitting subject in the very story she’s trying to break.

It features the rather big A-listers Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, and Willem Dafoe. As well as Rosie Perez.

In the director’s chair is Dee Rees, who made the acclaimed film Bessie for HBO and received an Oscar nomination two years ago for writing Mudhound.

The film is based on the 1996 novel of the same name written by Joan Didion.

In the book, the main character winds up taking over her father’s arms dealer business. The film does not seem to take this path and instead looks like another movie about a journalist who just wants the truth damn it!

The Last Thing He Wanted actually finished shooting over a year ago and has been sitting waiting to be released for a while now.

Netflix doesn’t have to worry about booking time in theaters against other films that could cut into its box office, so why the wait to release it?

The Last Thing He Wanted starts streaming on Netflix February 21.
