Maybe Netflix didn’t learn anything from all the snickering they heard from that Outlaw King movie they made with new-Kirk, Chris Pine, because they’ve decided to go medieval again with their new series The Letter For The King.

In this sweeping fantasy series, a teenage knight-in-training receives a secret letter on which the fate of the kingdom depends. He embarks on an epic quest to deliver it to the king and stop the world from being plunged into darkness.

Based on a popular book from the 60s, Netflix is hoping that it will help them build the next big thing in the young adult genre. You may not of heard of it before because it was originally written in Dutch by Tonke Dragt. But The Witcher was originally in Polish and that didn’t seem to hurt too much.

The series stars Amir Wilson, who in addition to this will also star in the latest big screen adaption of The Secret Garden which comes out later in the year.

This may be for “young adults” but it looks pretty down and depressing. Is this really the tone you want to project when trying to attract a younger audience?

It seems more like something more for real adults, but would an older audience be interested in something with such a young cast?

I don’t know. If you ask me the show will have a hard time trying to figure out who its audience is.

The Letter For The King starts streaming March 20 on Netflix.
