What Is With These Stereotypes?

Does every Chinese film that gets released in America have to be kung fu or another “our family moved to America” movie?

Tigertail, a Netflix movie from Alan Yang, who has producer and writer credits on several TV series including Parks and Recreation, Master Of None and Little America, does little to do away with this convention.

A Taiwanese factory worker leaves his homeland to seek opportunity in America, where he struggles to find connection while balancing family and newfound responsibilities in this multi-generational drama from writer-director Alan Yang.

Let’s watch the trailer together:

I like that there is a 1950s swing scene in Taiwan.

Giving love to American movies goes a long way in foreign films.

“Eventually, your life together is what you’ll have in common.” That’s good.

Uh oh, dad, played by the only old Chinese guy left in Hollywood,  has a secret.

Has he been in the opium den or the baths?

This trailer makes me wish I wasn’t an incel so I could watch this movie with a lady friend and then gently cuddle her platonically.

Because I’m not watching this movie alone.

Tigertail premieres on April 10th, only on Netflix.
