Supertroopers and Daddy Day Care Had a Baby

The film from Paramount Pictures that took over Sonic the Hedgehog’s release date is the firefighter comedy, Playing with Fire with John Cena, host of Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? on Nickelodeon and Keegan-Michael Key, whose last role of prominence was as Luther, President Barack Obama’s “anger” translator.

Lot of steroids in this picture….

Pardon me while I roll my eyes.

This trailer looks like Supertroopers and Daddy Day Care—which is the only place anyone under the age of twenty knows Eddie Murphy from—got together and had a baby.

But don’t believe me, check out the vomit-inducing, “funny only to nine-year-olds” trailer below:

We’re a Long Way from Rescue Me

As an adult, I like my firefighters more like Denis Leary on Rescue Me, or, in a pinch, like Kurt Russell in Backdraft.

It’s like a calendar in here…

This film stars John Leguizamo and I guess it’s nice to see him still getting work where his face shows up.

Directed by Andy Fickman (Paul Blart Mall Cop: 2) and written by Dan Ewen and Matt Lieberman, this film has a bunch of people in it, from actors to producers, who have long histories with producing inoffensive, low-brow comedies, that are targeted toward families and kids, but also may contain subversive messaging.

My Kids Will Like This and I’ll Tolerate It.

Here’s what it comes down to: I’ll wind up seeing this movie on a Saturday afternoon, two years from now, on Netflix—or another streaming service, probably Amazon Prime, truth be told—and I’ll stop and watch John Cena mug for the camera and the kids play with the dog, and then I’ll move on.

Eh. Ok.

I don’t lose. The kids don’t lose. The only people who might lose are the actors involved in this film and I don’t think they’re thinking too much about that.

Playing with Fire will put a fire ladder next to your house on November 8, 2019.
