In awesome Legends of Tomorrow casting news, it was revealed today on the Legends of Tomorrow Instagram that Matt Ryan would be a season four series regular on the show. Ryan plays (the sexy as hell) John Constantine on The CW’s Arrowverse.

Matt Ryan first played the character on the NBC show Constantine in 2014. The show was super dark and scary. After the show was cancelled he showed up in a 2015 episode of Arrow. In 2017 he played Constantine in the animated movie Justice League Dark, and the animated CW Seed show by the same name.

In season three of Legends of Tomorrow, with Victor Garber leaving the show they had a big need for a darker character, and John showed up.

He’s played in four episodes this season and will be back to battle more dark spirits next season. Legends of Tomorrow is CW’s goofier of the Arrowverse shows.

The concept is a bunch of losers hang out on a space ship and try to fix time. The first season they were trying to stop Vandal Savage and there was the whole Hawk people drama. Season 2 had the Legends trying to take down the Legion of Doom. This season (and I’m not 100% caught up. Victor Garber leaving really has thrown me), has the team trying to find totems and chasing after Damien Darhk and his daughter. Is John Constantine one of the losers or is he a Legend? Maybe a bit of both?

Matt Ryan is a good looking guy. I like his take on the character (so much better than the bastardized version we got with Keanu Reeves), and I like Legends.

I think having a darker character like Constantine grounds the show more. You can only have so much wild and crazy Nick Zano running around. Plus Ryan is a good actor.
