New Series To Consist Of 3 Episodes

With the fifth season of Black Mirror set to hit Netflix on June 5th, now the streaming platform has released trailers for each of the season’s three episodes.

The show continues to tell the story between the ever-increasing stance on humanity’s evolving relationship with technology and features a voice-enabled robot buddy gone sideways and we bit of drama involving meditation, fertility and dating apps.

The big names set to feature this year are Anthony Mackie along with Topher Grace, Andrew Scott, and Pom Klementieff. Interestingly enough, this series also includes an episode starring Miley Cyrus.

Here’s a breakdown of the three episodes:

Smithereens

Smithereens stars Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott as a “cab driver with an agenda becomes the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.”

The episode is a take on the rideshare culture made popular by apps such as Uber and Lyft. The episode puts forward the idea that the app is seeding murderous intent into its brainwashed drivers, or something like that. Damson Idris and Topher Grace also star.

Rachel, Jack And Ashley Too

The episode Rachel, Jack And Ashley Too features Miley Cyrus’ pop diva Ashley spiraling into exhaustion and paranoia while undergoing weird treatments until she ends up in the virtual, Alexa-type assistant modeled on her own image.

The episode also stars Angourie Rice and Madison Davenport.

Striking Vipers

Anthony Mackie stars in the episode that most resembles a drama, following “Two estranged college friends reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever.”

Clearly, Striking Vipers is more than it appears. The trailer hints at a Mortal Kombat-style episode in which actors starred as video game characters. It seems that Mackie’s video game addiction may be the undoing in the friendship between him and Nicole Beharie‘s character.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Pom Klementieff, and Ludi Lin also star.

Why Only 3 Episodes?

As to the curiously shortened season (previous Black Mirror seasons have featured six episodes) word is that the time and involved process required to create the interactive Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is why season 5 only consists of three episodes. Meh.

All three episodes of the fifth season of Black Mirror will arrive on Netflix on June 5th.
